2nd Week of Advent, Weekday Readings

John the Baptist is on the scene now; Isaiah is comparing barren, suffering, unfaithful humans in the deserts with what can be a flourishing future. Eusebius of Caesarea comments that, “None of the pagans had any knowledge of God, since His holy servants and prophets were kept from approaching them.” They were out in the wilderness or desert preparing the way of the Lord. And they are coming. Now. Underline:

Is 35:1-10  40:1-11  40:25-31  41:13-20  48:17-19  Sir 48:1-4,9-11

Ps 85:9-14  96:1-3,10-13  103:1-4,8,10  145:1,9-13  1:1-4,6  80:2,3,15-19

Lk 5:17-26  Mt 18:12-14  Mt 11:28-30  Mt 11:11-19  Mt 17:10-13

Do not be afraid of the jumping round. It will all come together in a year.
